I feel like you made a simple concept... complicated.
Thiis made everything worse
🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
I got it so basically she said... And then. She said... So now we know ... ...
I'm doing a (3...7) split . When I finish the 7 in the sb will I get a full 11 hours drive time and total 14 on duty time for the next day, just like if I took a 10hr break?
Hi, I know how to use the split sleeper berth 2-8, but can it be done the other way around after running out of HOS? Say that I already drove 11 hrs and usually for me to get another 11 hrs of dive time, I need to be off 10 hrs, but if I only get into sleeper berth for 8 hrs, will I get any driving hours back? And after driving, let's say 4 hrs, I get into the sleeper berth for 2 hrs. Does that work? Thank you
I swear this is the dumbest thing created by man. I don’t get it and it’s making me want to give up trying to get my CDL
Imma send this to the DOT arsehole next time.
*promo sm*
Nice video. Simple question. If you take at least 7 hrs of SB the remainder can be off duty without a violation correct?
Just get rid of the 14hr rule completely and everything else would make a lot more sense. Day cabs don't have sleepers.
Is it ok to: 5hrs ON/D, 5 hrs sleeper. 5hrs ON/D, 5hrs sleeper, 5hrs ON?
Does the 24hrs have to be from midnight to midnight or can it be like 5:00 TO 17:00(5AM to 5PM) ?
Now my head hurts.
The easiest way to understand this is watch your 11 hr clock if u driver 5 hrs and do a split u have 6 hrs left to drive whether u do 8/2 or 7/3 split. All you do with a split is use the remaining time from your 11 hr clock then shut down with the second part of your split break. When you finish your split break you will have completed your entire 10hr break and the clock resets. Its not really that complicated.
Wow someone made it real simple stupid easy to understand thank you!
Confusing as hell
Too fast! Slow down and also point out with hand not just ho light examples.
Best video I've seen so far explaining the splits and cutting to the chase.
To my understanding. Only a long sleeper birth can stop your clock. Taking a 3hr break doesn’t save you from violation of the 14hr rule.
Yes, that is correct! That 3 hour sleeper birth or off-duty break, keeps on ticking. The 7 hour sleeper birth will stop your 14 hour clock.
Terrible teachings
I have used Switch board off and on for over year and have had nothing but problems with it.
I must be tired because I don't get it
I think we have the idiots making this shit up drug tested!!!!
who spilts your sleep? I'll be a driving zombie. F the spilt get ur 10 in at one time.
I get it thank you!
1:50 Total duty time is 2 + 5 + 2 + 6 = 15. She incorrectly stated that was 14, as it needs to be. Doesn't that make this example a HOS violation? What am I missing, did I misunderstand her?
I've never seen a log that looks like that. Still can't figure it out
Great example of how government makes our lives better.......
I think im ready to live in the forrest and fight off the gnomes with my off duty sleeper birth knowledge 👍🏽
Makes no sense .terrible teacher
So the split is really just to rest set your 14hr clock and not your drive time? Say I drove 5hrs, break 2hrs, drive 6 and sleep 8. Do I get my full 11hrs back after the 8 sleeper? Sry Idk why it's so confusing to me
Hi Jay, the split is to allow yourself to take less than 10 hours consecutive sleep time, which may work better with your schedule! In your example, the moment you finish your 8 hours of sleep, you will have **4 hours of drive time left**, because your time will restart to the end of your initial 2 hour break. We have more information on Split Sleeper HOS here: onswitchboard.com/blog/split-sleeper-berth-guide-and-examples/
Now explain it like if i was 5 years old
Yay for government 1 minute of miscalculation can put you in violation. Why don't they just line us up against a wall and finish us.
If you watch this 10 times, you might get it.
It sounds as if you're reading it out and you don't even know it yourself
I like turtles.
Damn I’m slow as hell cause I’m still confused on the splits when it’s time to drive again after completing a split
Here’s a question. I understand the whole split rule, but I’m confused about consecutive days using it. I know that it doesn’t matter if you take the long, or short break first. But what about the next day? Example, I did the 7 hours first today, later today I’ll do my 3. After I do the 3 hour break, and get back my hours, does it still not matter which break I take first? Like can I do 7/3 then 3/7? Or do I need to do 7/3 7/3. Someone please answer this
Hi R H, when considering the Split Sleeper rule, it can be confusing because there's no hard reset, but your "window" of 10 hours keeps shifting forward for each break that you take. If you did 7 hours as a break, then 3 later, then you would start with the amount of hours that you had remaining **at the end of your first 7 hour break**. Later, the moment you take another 3 hour break, you would have the hours that you had **at the end of your 3 hour break**. We have more examples here if you need more info: onswitchboard.com/blog/split-sleeper-berth-guide-and-examples/
Most confusing video ever. Using words like "this" and other vague words that can easily cause somebody to lose track of what she's talking about.
-Split -Sleeper -calculation 14 minus (time used between 8sleeper 2offduty) = time given [appears like it paused the 14 if you started with 14] 11 minus ( time driven between 8sleeper 2offduty) = driving time given [drive time stops when wheels stop] Edit or add event the yard move and or the personal conveyance entries from customer to Truck stop to complete sleeper time in reality. -split -sleeper -calculation
The shorter break if used first , and is a minimum of two hours, stops the 14 clock. Or in other words extends your day two hours. After that you must log the remaing required time in the sleeper.
Soo if i dont run my clock out i can go in off duty mode for 3 hrs and drive again? Or i can go in sleeper birth for 7 and drive again???
it sucks and any company that requires drivers like me to do it will see me go home the next day
thanks Can I start my day with 8 hrs sleeper birth, then 8 hours driving, then 30 minutes on duty, then 3 hours driving, then 2 hours sleeper birth? If not, why?
Ok a nap and watching 3 times I get it except the 2 hour break part
so you can do the the smaller break first?
Yes
Your examples are horrible, like you're explaining this to a fellow systems analyst. Use practical examples for a driver like, "Use this 8 hr break if you need to leave earlier than a 10 hour break would allow"....
Do these rules also apply for paper logs or just elogs ?
And if I keep driving with split sleeper how do I get my full 14 back if I only keep doing 3/7 or 2/8 but it only Stopps the 14 but doesn't reset it. So basically I drive then do my 2 or 3 then drive and then my 10 and at least I didn't waist any drive time for that day if I'm doing recap?!
The only way to get a full 14 is to clean the slate by doing a full 10
If you drive like this you really have no life anymore. You're gonna be burned out in no time especially if you do recap😂 I used it one time so far and this will only happen again if the shipper got me waiting 4 to 6 hours again and still after my 70h recap is up for that day I do my 10h. I like my consecutive 10h break
The way I get loads sent I pretty much have to do this, drive the full 10 atleast 2 days in a row or be late and cap out time as soon I get to the shippers waiting. So confusing
Over all split 7+3 or 3+7 this just means if you take 3hours of off duty/sleeper rest time the hours you used 5hrs driving and 1hr = 6 hrs of work time on duty will be NEGATED, DELETED, by having a rest period of 3hrs or (seven sleeper)in this video that ends in point A then start a new 8 hours of work time 6hrs plus 2 Do not watch this if you are looking at it first time.
